Today While The Blossoms Still Cling To The Vine

Sunday, 29 March 20o9

I hope to see you again, Penang. This song "Today" by Emi Fujita is for you.

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I'll forget all the joy that is mine today

I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
Who cares what tomorrow shall bring?

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I'll forget all the joy that is mine today

I can't be contented with yesterday's glory
I can't live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment and now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I'll forget all the joy that is mine today

Heading Back to Kuala Lumpur

Sunday, 19 August 2007

Scene outside the convocation building. It was already 7:30 pm. The rain had stopped and people were going off. It had been a long day. We were tired and hungry. And we were heading back to Kuala Lumpur as well.

I would like to come back to Penang again and spend the time here on a more relaxing pace than we did for the last 5 days. Because of the 9 sessions of graduations that took place from Wednesday to Friday, the city was packed with people and cars.

Flowers & Gifts for Graduates

Sunday, 19 August 2007

The scene outside the University Sains Malaysia during noon night - rows of stalls selling flowers and gifts for the graduates. There were also stalls set up inside the campus selling flower and gifts too.

Lian's Convocation

Thursday, 16 August 2007

At 3 pm, Lian had to collect her gown, hood and mortar board. Then she had to go back for briefing of the convocation at 730 pm. I got to have a nearer view of the stage since we are allowed to sit in front as well, together with the graduates, during the briefing.

Sam's Batik House

Friday, 24 August 2007

It is funny! Sister had 1 (maybe 2) business cards from the shop. I asked for 3 business cards with the intention of giving out to friends. I told the ladies in the shop that I would email their bosses and let them know when I have done posting of the pictures, that I took of their shop, into my blog. Funny! Neither Sister and I could find the cards anywhere. We were sure we have them in our handbags and brought them back to Miri. I don't know how many times I search but to no avail. They just disappeared into the thin air!!

***** If you are the owners of the Batik house and reading this posting, please know that I haven't forgot to email you, as I promised to. All the best to your business. *****

Friday, 17 August 2007

I love the selection of clothes in this Batik house in Penang Road.

There are clothes for casual, formal or evening wear and even clothes for belly-dancing!

And lovely handbags to go with.

.......I like this one. I like that one too. Don't know which one to choose! Help..................

Nasi Kandar

Friday, 17 August 2007

What for lunch? What about Nasi Kandar? It is popular in Penang. There were stalls almost everywhere in Penang selling that. So must eat that otherwise our trip to Penang will not be complete.

The stall that we stumbled along the famous Penang Road, happened to be famous as well. Like the Ice Kacang stall yesterday afternoon, people were queuing for their order.

Rice would be scooped onto a plate and you tell the attendant what meat dishes you want and he would dish them on top of the rice. Then you take the plate of food to one of the tables and paid for it after you finished eating.

Getting Ready for Sale

Thursday, 16 August 2007

Strolling along the inner backlanes of Penang city, which I believed is the morning market. I was were there May 2006 but we didn't see this. I guess they are preparing the pigs to be roasted or to be cut and sold tomorrow morning.

Ice Kacang

Thursday, 16 August 2007

The afternoon was hot. People were queuing to buy ice kacang or chendul at the stall. It was reported to be famous in Penang, so it is a must try for us.

It was good! I enjoyed it, especially on a hot afternoon - cools down the body!

Going to Penang Again

Wednesday, 15 August 2007

Going to Penang again! This time we are driving there - Lian, Monica and me. Left home after 1130 am and arrive in Penang before 5 pm.

Have you ever seen dresses made of trash bags, eggs trays and paper cake ups? Saw them in the resting station where we break our journey.

Going Back to Kuala Lumpur

Tuesday, 16 May 2006
Time to go back to Kuala Lumpur. "Transnasional" bus leave Penang island (Georgetown) at 10:00 am. There were only 5 of us: Uncle Ni, Sister Monica, an Australian couple and myself............ plus the driver = 6!

Crossing the longest bridge in Asia - Penang bridge - 15 km.

Entering the mainland - Butterworth - and onto the highway to Kuala Lumpur.

Back in Kuala Lumpur traffic jam and entering the bus terminal in Puduraya.

Penang Street

Tuesday, 16 May 2006
The famous street in the city - Penang Street!

Walked into a shop lot (temple) of "Krishna & Radha".

Making Spring Roll 'skin'.

Got to take a picture of this shop. I was attracted to the colour and the external design. It was different from the other shops that I saw in the street.

And on the way back to our hotel, this beautiful decorated trishaw caught my eyes!

Chew Jetty

Monday, 15 May 2006
The trishaw peddlar walked with us on the Chew jetty and took a picture of us, before he left us.

I am glad I took a picture of the ship. I like this picture.

Khoo Kongsi

Monday, 15 May 2006
Uncle Ni was tired, so me and Sister Monica decided to explore Penang by ourselves, by trishaw! The following picture was taken at our last stop (Chew Jetty). It was just after rain and so the peddlar had it covered before he walked with us on the Chew Jetty.

I am glad that he brought us to the Khoo Kongsi. It is one of the tourist place of interest.

The crying and the laughing monks!

Penang Hill

Sunday, 14 May 2006
Last place of visit for the day was Penang Hill. By the time we walked from the Goddess of Mercy temple to the ticketing office, to buy our cable car tickets to the top of the Penang Hill, it was past 7:00 pm. The sun was setting but nevertheless I managed to get some pictures! A beautiful quiet place to unwind!
